Digital marketers across Australia are gaining traction as the country enters a digital transition, with some even predicting that the region will become the country with the most digital marketers in the world by 2020.
In an interview with The Globe and Mail, Digital Strategist and Chief Digital Officer at digital agency Digital Strategia, Alex McAlister, said Australia is entering an era where people are using digital products and services across a range of industries, from advertising and digital to healthcare, media and education.
“We are seeing an increase in the number of digital marketers, the types of brands that are using them and the companies that are building them, which are all growing in popularity,” McAlisters said.
“Australia has seen a huge number of companies and brands who have come to terms with the digital landscape and have realised that the future of their business is now in the digital arena.”
For example, in the space of two years, we have seen a massive increase in digital marketing firms in Australia, and we are seeing companies such as Digital StrategiAs, which I have worked with for the past 10 years, and Digital Strategias, which is one of our clients.

“McAristers predicted that by 2020, the Australian digital market will be worth more than $4.5 billion, and that by 2025 it will be more than half of the economy’s total digital market, which will be valued at more than US$4.6 trillion.”

He said that Australia is becoming more competitive as a country and a digital industry, and said that while digital advertising is not yet the main way digital companies are making money, it is one part of a broader economic strategy that includes digital marketing and the creation of jobs.
“When you look at the digital world and what is happening in Australia in terms of the role of digital in our economy, the role digital in the economy is really important.

McDonalds Australia, which McAliers led for over two years in Australia before leaving to pursue a role with Digital Strategis, said it has seen digital advertising growth accelerate, and expects to have more than 3,000 digital ad spots on its website in 2020.
“Over the past year, our digital advertising revenue has grown at a rate of over 50 per cent and we expect this growth to continue,” said McDonalds Australia Chief Executive, Craig Moore.
“These digital advertising opportunities are just around the corner and we look forward to providing the digital advertising platform that our customers have been looking for.”
McAllen Digital, which helps brands connect with customers through online content, has also seen a dramatic increase in advertising revenues.
