The digital advertising market in India has been in the midst of a huge shift in recent years.
The new era is a lot more digital than before.
But there is still a lot of work to be done in this space to ensure that digital ads are serving their audiences and are attracting and retaining consumers.
In this episode, I am joined by two industry insiders to discuss the digital advertising landscape, the challenges that digital advertising faces and how digital marketing will change the way Indian marketers do business.
Digital Marketing is Killing Digital Ads in India The digital advertising industry in India is changing rapidly.
The digital landscape is changing, too, with digital advertising now being a $1.2 trillion industry and a $12.5 billion industry overall.
While digital advertising is certainly an important industry, the new reality is that digital marketing is taking the lead in the digital space, and digital advertising has been a huge driver of the growth of Indian digital advertising over the past few years.
But that is not to say that Indian advertisers aren’t seeing the benefits of digital marketing in India.
In fact, Indian digital marketers are seeing an exponential growth in digital advertising.
Indian Digital Advertisers are Growing at a Glance Digital advertising has exploded in India, becoming the most popular form of advertising in the country.
But what’s the impact of this on Indian advertisers?
What can Indian advertisers learn from digital marketing?
The Indian Digital Advertising Market in 2017 According to a 2017 report by Adwords India, digital advertising in India grew by 20% in 2017.
The report highlights that Indian digital ad spending grew from $2.1 billion in 2016 to $3.6 billion in 2017, which represents a nearly 5-fold increase.
Adwords report also states that Indian ad spending in India reached $8.9 billion in 2018, a 6.5-fold jump.
But what are the trends?
What is the future for Indian digital marketing and what do digital marketers need to know to survive?
Digital marketing is one of the fastest-growing forms of advertising and advertising growth has been at an all-time high in India for the past several years.
Adwords India’s 2017 report also mentioned that digital ad spend in India rose from $1,500 in 2015 to $4.3 billion in 2019, a 17-fold growth.
According to the Adwords Indian report, digital marketing accounts for one-fifth of Indian ad spend, but it accounts for only 4.9% of ad spend overall.
It is estimated that digital advertisement spending is currently at $6.4 billion in India and digital marketing has a market share of nearly 16%.
This rapid growth is an incredible opportunity for Indian advertisers.
Advertising dollars are being spent on more than just digital advertising, however, Indian advertisers have also noticed that digital media platforms are rapidly growing in India with digital media growing by nearly 5% in India over the last five years.
Indian Advertiser Challenges Advertising is the lifeblood of any digital marketing campaign.
Digital media platforms like Google AdWords and Facebook Ads have been instrumental in building digital marketing businesses in India and Adwords reports that India has nearly $3 billion of digital advertising spending, which accounts for more than 70% of all digital advertising spend in the nation.
However, there are some challenges in Indian digital media markets.
First, advertising dollars are spent on a limited number of ads, with many ad campaigns not attracting the attention of audiences or the ad spend on ads.
This means that a large portion of digital ad dollars are still being spent without creating any real value for advertisers.
In addition, digital media ad spending is not sustainable as ad spend is increasingly being spent in the form of ad placement on other digital media.
Another challenge in Indian ad budgets is that the digital ad space has been slow to evolve.
Advertisments are still limited to three days per month and ad spending continues to be based on ad clicks.
How to Survive Digital Marketing in India The key for any digital marketer is to invest in the right digital platforms to reach their target audience.
For digital marketers, this means that digital platforms like Facebook Ads, Google Adwords, Adwords in India (Adwords) and Adwords International (Adwins) need to evolve as platforms that provide advertisers with a digital platform to target their customers.
If you are a digital marketing entrepreneur in India or are an advertising agency, I recommend you look at these digital platforms.
