Digital marketing expert Jeff Smith explained how to use the Google Analytics API to create effective digital marketing strategies.
Smith’s article will give you a quick run-down of the API, and then he will walk you through how to get started with your own analytics dashboard.
Here’s how to set up your Google Analytics dashboard:1.
Install the Google analytics dashboard on your device: Google’s new dashboard app is available for iOS and Android phones and tablets.
It’s a free download, but there’s a $1.99 monthly subscription that adds features like analytics reports, a search box for your analytics, and a dashboard to track your traffic and visitors.
If you already have the Google account, you can also use the dashboard to manage and view Google Analytics reports.
Set up a Google Analytics account: Sign in to your Google account.
From the Dashboard tab, click the Analytics link at the top of the page.
You can also find it under the Privacy section of the top right corner of the dashboard.3.
Enable Google Analytics reporting: From here, click “Add to dashboard” and select “Google Analytics”.
Log in to Google Analytics: Navigate to the Google Dashboard, and click “Tools”.5.
Add the Google report you created: On the top left corner, click a “Add” button.6.
Add a new Google Analytics report: Add a new report to your dashboard.7.
Select “Report type”: Click “New” in the upper right corner, and select Google Analytics Report.
Enter your analytics data: The report is saved as a JSON file in your Google Account, and you can see the details of the report on the right side of the screen.9.
Select the reporting type you created earlier: Click the “Edit” button at the bottom of the Google dashboard, and choose the “Report Type” dropdown.
Save your report:The report will be saved as JSON file.
Log out of Google Analytics and back in: You’re done!
Once your dashboard is created, you need to access it from your Google API account to use it.
For example, to access Google Analytics from your iOS or Android device, follow these steps:1 .
Click on “Dashboard” in Google Analytics.
Choose the “Dashboards” tab in the Google API interface.
In the “Google API” section, click on “Add new API Key”.
Enter the API key and click the “Add New Key” button on the next page.5.
Choose the data type and click on the “Create Key” tab.
Enter the key and password for your account, and the API password you provided.7 .
Click “Save Key”.8.
When prompted to create the key, click OK. 9.
When your account is created in Google, click in the top-right corner of Google to go to the “Keychain” tab to retrieve the key.10.
Once your key is created and the keychain is displayed, click through to the dashboard and select your account.11.
From the dashboard, click your account name, and tap “Create New Account”.12.
Enter Google’s API key information: Your key will be displayed on the top bar of the “Account Settings” screen.13.
In Google’s “Create Account” screen, select your API key, and confirm your new API key with your email address and phone number.
Sign in to the API with your API Key.
Click the “Sign in” button in the “Developer” section.
Enter “your API key” in your “API Keys” section and click Create Account.17.
At the bottom-right of the main dashboard, select the “New Account” section to sign up.18.
When you sign up for an account, Google will ask for your phone number and email address.
Enter them and click Continue.20.
When the account is complete, Google’s dashboard will display the account’s status, and all the information you entered will appear in the right sidebar.
Click on the button labeled “Create Dashboard”.
On the “Tools” tab, select “Dashboarding” from the menu at the upper-right.
Click “Dashbooks” to add a new dashboard to your account and create a new tracking report.
Click Add Dashboard to add the Google dashbook you created in Step 1.
Add your new dashboard and click Next.
Select your data type from the dropdown menu and click Add Data Type.
